unWired Broadband wins 2022 Best of Central California award

unWired Broadband has been voted Best Internet Service Provider in The Fresno Bee’s 2022 Best of Central California awards. The award was chosen by Central California residents throughout a three-week online voting period. The top three businesses in each category are awarded and unWired was honored with the gold in the Best Internet Service Provider category. Since 2005, The Fresno Bee has been recognizing local businesses in this prestigious annual award.

unWired Broadband is an Internet provider that specializes in providing Internet solutions to rural and underserved populations in Central California. “Our service is primarily designed to reach rural homes and business who have very limited choices when it comes to Internet service.” says Peter Sorensen, President of unWired Broadband. unWired meets the growing need of so many rural residents for a fast and reliable Internet connection.

Unlike other types of rural Internet options, unWired’s service is delivered directly to a home or business from one of their local towers located less than 10 miles away. Using a small radio and antenna placed near a building or home, unWired technicians locate and align the antenna for optimal signal strength and connect it to routers.

No stranger to the region, unWired has been in business since 2003 thanks to a chance encounter on top of the tallest building in Central California. “I met Craig Demanty on the Pacific Southwest building in downtown Fresno while performing maintenance on telecommunication equipment,” Sorensen said. “We later decided to merge our two Internet companies to form unWired, with a single tower site in Clovis, CA.” Since its inception, unWired has experienced explosive growth and now covers 17,000 square miles with over 150 towers. Its coverage area spans Central California from Elk Grove to the bottom of the Grapevine, south of Bakersfield.

unWired’s offerings don’t stop at Internet service. They also have expanded their services to include a state-of-the-art data center facility in Fresno, CA and back-up Internet connections, designed for in-town businesses in need of a secondary connection in case their primary Internet connection goes down. They also offer a mobile telecommunications hub which can be used for events or a temporary Internet connection in case of an emergency. This technology has been deployed for festivals, concerts and CAL FIRE base camps.

All 135 of unWired’s employees are based in Central California and are a big reason why customers choose and recommend unWired to others. Sorensen says, “Our employees are the lifeblood of our organization. Every employee plays a vital role in ensuring that our network is optimized and running smoothly.”

Lauded as a trusted connectivity partner to thousands of agricultural businesses like The Wonderful Company and Prima® Wawona, unWired is a strong supporter of local agriculture. All their vehicles sport the My Job Depends on Ag sticker that has become so recognizable in Central California. They are also a sponsor of the ValleyPBS documentary series, American Grown: My Job Depends on Ag.

Being recognized by Central California residents is a major milestone for unWired. “We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our customers and supporters for their votes in this year’s Best of Central California,” Sorensen said. “It is a true honor to be recognized by our community and we look forward to living up to our title as Best Internet Service Provider every single day.”
